Selection (Trial/Audition requirements)
The selection period is from 24 June 2024 – 30 August 2024.
Shortlisted applicants will be informed via telephone or email to attend a trial/audition for sports or performing arts. An informal interview will be conducted with shortlisted applicants after the trial/audition.
Shortlisted applicants typically have:
-
participated actively in CCA (related to talent area)
-
represented the school in competitions/performances
-
held leadership positions in school
Applicants with non-school based activities and achievements will also be considered.
The requirements for the talent areas are as follow:

· For boys, possess a valid USGA handicap index of 18.0 and below · For girls, possess a valid USGA handicap index of 24.0 and below · Shortlisted applicants
will be required to attend a trial that involves driving and putting

Choir (girls) |
Shortlisted applicants will: · perform 2 songs of their choice, which will demonstrate their musical ability, pitch, rhythm, feeling and expression · Aural test

Chinese Dance (girls) |
Shortlisted applicants will: · prepare and perform a 1-minute dance that demonstrate rhythm, expression, timing and control · perform basic movements that showcase flexibility and agility · learn a 4 x 8 beat dance
from instructor. Shortlisted applicants will be given time to practice
and replicate the dance

Modern Dance (boys and girls) |
Shortlisted applicants will: · perform a 1-minute dance item* which will demonstrate rhythm, timing, expression and passion · learn a short routine
(about 30 seconds) from instructor. Shortlisted applicants will be given
30 minutes to practice and replicate the choreography, followed by 10 seconds
of freestyling to the music

String Ensemble (boys and girls) |
Shortlisted applicants will: · play 2 contrasting (preferably) short pieces appropriate to their stage of development · play unseen sight reading

Concert Band (boys and girls) |
For woodwinds, shortlisted applicants will: · perform 2 contrasting pieces or movements (not more than 1 min each, can be fast and slow, different periods or different styles) · play concert Bb major scales (both legato and staccato) · sight read a short excerpt from our band repertoire on the actual audition · Shortlisted applicants will be given 2 to 3 minutes to practice the piece at the audition before performing for the panel
For brasses, shortlisted applicants will · perform 2 contrasting pieces or movements (not more than 1 min each, can be fast and slow, different periods or different styles) · play concert Bb major scales (both legato and staccato, with the exception of French Horn, Concert F major) · sight read a short excerpt from our band repertoire on the actual audition · Shortlisted applicants will be given 2 to 3 minutes to practice the piece at the audition before performing for the panel
For percussion, shortlisted applicants will · perform a short excerpt on a snare drum (untuned percussion) and a mallet (tuned percussion) piece or movements (not more than 1 min) · play concert Bb major scale on the mallets · sight read a short excerpt from our band repertoire on the actual audition · Shortlisted applicants
will be given 2 to 3 minutes to practice the piece at the audition before
performing for the panel
Shortlisted applicants are to bring their own instrument (except for percussion) and choice pieces of music for the audition. |
Please note that students who are unable to attend the trial/audition for valid reasons can make alternative arrangements subject to the availability of school staff. The request for alternative arrangements can be made via phone or email to the school.
